old blog, new blog, red blog, blue blog

I have now changed the name of this blog so many times that, were it a piece of paper, I would have erased a hole all the way through.

The reality is that blogging does not come easily to me. One reason is that it usually takes some degree of serious editing before I manage to construct a sensible and reasonable string of characters that also expresses what I think I mean. As such, I give notice: all posts are subject to change. If you happen to take issue with something, don't be surprised if I take it to heart, even if I don't respond directly. You are not likely to get credit, but can still change the world if your words are rational and diplomatic.

A new friend here in Jackson (Mississippi) told me the other day that if a writer is not blogging these days....I'm not sure what the end of the sentence was, but it was something like 'that writer could be more productive/is missing out/is not doing their job'. While there are obviously many writers of many varieties that don't blog, in my case I need the practice. Perhaps more importantly, I need to develop. The old papers posted evidence that effectively.

Specifically, I need to develop a project that is now many years in the making. Those old papers explain something of how it started. And that new friend helped me to put it in perspective and context rather effectively. Though I still hope to find some interest in the academic and publishing communities for my work, it is also the case that this may be the most effective manner of presentation. These projects are collectively referred to as 'my Star Wars work' (or some such). Be forewarned (again): I am not so much of a fan, as of the "Star Wars Generation" (a term used by an 'informant', in the ethnographic sense of the word, some years back), thoroughly versed in the texts and culture, and thoughtfully critical to a fault.

This blog (and its ilk, flittering about the ether under various names) will also be used to develop whatever other educational or cultural projects I may work on, as well as some random thoughts and/or ramblings and/or rants. For example, a set of lectures delivered at Otis College of Art and Design on the sociology of art will be used to develop a paper and a new lecture with a slightly different focus. The point is, I will be rambling my way through in a disturbingly public manner. It will likely be entertaining, in a hopelessly schadenfreude way. Feel free to laugh along, but do remember: they don't call me sandpaper for nothing.
